South by Southwest has been around since the late 80’s, and is now a must-attend haven of film screenings, tech presentations, music festivals, and pretty much anything under the sun. Since it’s more or less impossible to attend every exciting event this year, we’ve chosen a few that we think you’d enjoy.
It’s hard to name a performer that isn’t in Texas this week! Music enthusiasts will have to plan carefully to catch each show, mini-festiaval, showcase, and night out that they’d like to see. Here are a few that are gathering buzz.
K-Pop Night Out
If you needed any more proof that SXSW is a global event, check out K-Pop Night Out on the 17th. See acts like Galaxy Express, No Brain, Red Velvet, and Hyolyn, without a trip to Seoul.
Queen Bey’s sister will be headlining at Coppertank on March 15th (that’s tomorrow night, hurry and find tickets!). It’s sure to be a funky, poppy, R&B-filled night that shouldn’t be missed.
The Fader Fort will return again to SXSW from the 15th through the 18th. It’s a must-listen showcase of up and coming bands, and the whole thing will be streamed, too!

The Big Sick
Directed by Wet Hot American Summer’s Michael Showalter, and starring Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon, this true-story comedy about love and family will surely melt some hearts, and bring some laughs, in Austin this week.
This isn’t just one film, but how could we choose from a list this large? 3D and CGI cinema is to be found all over Austin this week, so be sure to plug into a few.
First John Wick, now Agent Lorraine Broughton, 2017 looks like it’ll be an action-packed year. Incidentally, the neon aesthetic was overdue for a comeback.
