AB de Villiers: A Living Hero

At FanHero, we’re super thrilled to have recently launched the new AB de Villiers Official App. Now, fans will be able to get closer than ever before to their cricket hero.

“NO MATTER HOW HOT THE FIRE BURNS, A PROTEA ALWAYS SURVIVES.” –AB DE VILLIERS

A Protea is a type of South African flowering plant, often called a sugarbush. For South Africans, Proteas represent change and hope. AB de Villiers, who is the current South Africa One Day International Captain and widely regarded as one of the best cricketers of all time, fully embodies the Protea spirit.

A METEORIC RISE

“AB de Villiers is changing the rules of the game.” –Rahul Dravid, former Indian Cricketer and Captain

Game-changing is an understatement. From the very start of his career, it was clear that AB de Villiers was going to achieve major feats. He got his start with cricket professionally at 18, but was also adept at everything from golf to rugby. Basically, he was born to play sports.

He made his test debut in 2004 at 20 years old, and in 2005 he was awarded as one of South Africa’s Five Cricketers of the Year.

Not a bad start. But that was just the beginning.

Young AB was poised for stardom.

SUPERMAN OF CRICKET

“I demand a DNA test of AB de Villiers. This game is only for humans.” –Aakash Chopra, former Indian Cricketer

There’s a reason he’s known as the “Superman of Cricket.” de Villiers is seemingly unstoppable on the pitch, and is currently the world number one ODI batsman. He’s known for his excellent batting technique and is widely regarded as one of the best fielders in international cricket.

He is top order batsman, playing for the Titans in South Africa, the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League and of course, for South Africa all over the world.

It’s no wonder that his fan base is so devoted, when their hero is so inspiring.

WHAT’S COMING NEXT?

2017 has already been an exciting year for de Villiers. He’s just getting started, and we’re looking forward to seeing where he’s headed. One of his immediate goals for this year is winning the Indian Premiere League –a goal he has yet to achieve.

This could be his year.

“It’s an interesting year. There’s lots to achieve. The first thing that comes to mind is probably the IPL. I’d like to win that trophy; I’ve never won it before.”
