Spotlight on Meryl Streep

“Integrate what you believe in every single area of your life. Take your heart to work and ask the most and best of everybody else, too.” -Meryl Streep

If you ask someone to name a great actress, chances are they’ll say Meryl Streep. Although she denies it, those in the industry refer to her as the “best actress of her generation”.

From Out of Africa to The Devil Wears Prada, her versatility (and advocacy off-screen!) makes her more than worthy of our spotlight.

Like most great actors, Meryl was on the stage before the screen. In her first year in NYC she was cast in over five roles. Some Broadway, some Shakespeare.

Her first film, Julia, starring Jane Fonda had her play a small role as an extra. After filming was done, she was horrified by her portrayal, and claimed “no more movies”. Luckily, the tides turned.

Robert De Niro discovered her through stage performances the same year Julia came out, and asked her to play a role in The Deer Hunter. After that film’s success, the rest is history. The roles and Golden Globe awards were being awarded to Meryl more and more by the late 70’s.

Pretty envious of this look in She-Devil.

Meryl is still acting today, of course. We wouldn’t have it any other way. But she splits her time now between new roles and philanthropy. She’s the spokesperson for the National Women’s History Museum, establishes scholarships, and the list goes on.

Whether you’re a comedy fan or a drama buff, we’re sure you can name more than a few films where Meryl really shone. It’s hard to say who will be the next Meryl Streep, because she’s still raising the bar on the daily.
